Episode #182 – Demko Arrives & Boston’s Brewing

The Vancouver Canucks’ goaltender of the future finally makes his NHL debut… and it was pretty okay.

Ryan, Geeta and P Mac chat over the Easter long weekend to discuss the big debut of Thatcher Demko on Saturday afternoon. After several years of development in college and the AHL, the Canucks’ goaltending prospect made his debut against a Columbus Blue Jackets team hungry for points and home ice advantage.

They also discuss Scott Foster’s emergency call up with the Chicago Blackhawks. His fourteen perfect minutes of play were one of the few bright spots for the struggling Blackhawks this season.

Denis Potvin had some pretty salty words for the Edmonton Oilers. Major praise for McDavid, but heavy criticism for the rest of the team and management. The gang asks what needs to be done over the summer to try and get them back to the playoffs, just one year removed from a second round appearance.

They also discuss the red-hot Boston Bruins. They overtook Tampa atop the Atlantic Division, have some incredible depth and look to be built for the playoffs. How far will they go? And how about that new one year deal for Big Z? Will the Sedins look for something similar?

Listen to this week’s 5 Minutes for Paying for our $5+ Patreon backers. The gang faces a hypothetical question about a bear on a football field, Ryan finally moves out of the PON studios and much more!

Episode #181 – A Texas Sized 10-4

A collapse in Texas as the Dallas Stars lose eight in a row and their playoff hopes are slipping away fast.

Geeta, P Mac and Ryan join you this week to discuss the Vancouver Canucks signing Hobey Baker favourite Adam Gaudette. The NCAA star is expected to see some ice time in Vancouver wearing #88 during the final games of the regular season.

They also discuss the collapse in Dallas. Are the Stars just not good enough? Perhaps a lack of bottom six depth or a back end just not good enough next to other teams in the West? Or is Ken Hitchcock to blame? It has been a rocky road to say the least.

Since being traded to San Jose, Evander Kane is really flourishing. Twelve points in twelve games. The “controversial” player seems to have finally found a team and a veteran core to thrive with.

Also this week, Connor McDavid is lighting it up in garbage time, does it matter? We answer some great twitter questions and learn some more devastating news regarding draft picks in Cow Town!

They also discuss Alex Ovechkin having another 40 goal season. Could he play long enough to pass Wayne Gretzky’s goal scoring totals? Breaking one of Wayne’s records sounds like an impossible feat, but there is a solid chance he could.

Brad Marchand is up to his usual tricks. Embellishing fines, dangerous collisions and suspensions have returned to his game following nearly two seasons of squeaky clean hockey. What needs to be done with Rat Boy?

Finally, the gang answers question from Twitter, from going to Vancouver Canucks games to a couple great “Would You Rathers”, as well as Ryan’s new career as a professional Bachelor Party Partier

The trade deadline has come and gone, so has Thomas Vanek and man oh man were Vancouver Canucks fans unhappy about it!

They also discuss the Ryan McDonagh heading to Tampa Bay, FOR A LOT. Did they overpay for the Rangers’ captain? Or will this gamble and blockbuster deal pay off for Stevie Y?

They also discuss Evander Kane heading to the west coast to, thankfully, San Jose. Can the locker room problem fit in with the big personalities in the Bay Area? Can Jumbo Joe lay down the law? Or will there be another tracksuit in the shower?

Finally, the gang discuss Boston’s unfortunate luck with injuries, who won the NHL trade deadline and and answer some questions from Twitter!

And congratulations to Mike Schalin who won the Brock Boeser Canucks jersey with his entry as well as Chels, who won a Canucks jersey shirt of her chosing with her entry!

Episode #177 – Ottawa Is Sinking, Karlsson Don’t Wanna Swim

One more week to enter our Brock Boeser jersey contest!

On the eve of the NHL Trade Deadline, Rick Nash is a Boston Bruin, Derick Brassard heads to greener Penguin pastures and they continue to debate the trade value of Thomas Vanek.

On the show this week, they discuss Rick Nash becoming a Boston Bruin, the rather high price they paid for an aging forward who’s best years are possibly behind him. What does this mean for Boston and for Jarome Iginla, who was practicing with the Providence Bruins recently?

They also discuss the Canucks’ deadline day, Jacob Markstrom’s ups and downs and an alternate universe where next season, Thatcher Demko would backup Roberto Luongo.

They look at Derick Brassard’s impressive playoff point production, what his addition means for the Penguins’ desires to three-peat and what it will take to take on the arms race rumours involving the Tampa Bay Lighting and Erik Karlsson.

Finally, they touch on the Olympics. The exciting NHL-free tournament and one hell of a gold medal game between Canada and the USA womens teams.

Have you entered our Brock Boeser jersey contest yet? Listen to find out how to win!

The Olympic Athletes from Russia are turning heads in South Korea, the Canadian team of ham and eggers aren’t nearly as dominant as one would expect and a very small portion of the country is watching at that hour!

Ryan, P Mac and Geeta gather on a rare Sunday PON brunchcast to discuss Jim Benning’s three year extension as GM of the Vancouver Canucks. A divided Palatial Estate discusses the pros and cons of such a move.

They also discuss the unusual Dion Phaneuf for Marian Gaborik trade Los Angeles and Ottawa made. If they made this trade 8 or 9 years ago, it would have been a huge deal. In 2018, it’s trading off bad contract for bad contract. An albatross exchange!

On the subject of the Senators, they discuss Eugene Melnyk’s odd new position, the organization willing to trade away Erik Karlsson and whether they could be gearing up to move the team in the middle of the night.

They discuss Loui Eriksson’s bad deal, who they would exchange his bad contract for in return for another player with a bad contract, discuss Thomas Vanek’s trade value and get ready as the Vancouver Canucks approach a very important trade deadline.

Listen to this week’s 5 Minutes for Paying for our $5+ Patreon backers. Geeta gets a hair in her birthday brunch omelette, the gang discusses which movies scarred them as children and their stressed out sleeping habits.
