Episode #115 – When The Juolevi Breaks

The 2016 NHL Entry Draft is here! And the Canucks are picking early as hell this year! With the 5th overall pick, the Canucks draft what they hope to be a top 2 franchise D-man in Olli Juolevi

Ryan, Dave and P Mac get together as the draft unfolds to talk all about the Canucks’ busy draft week. From accusations of tampering with Subban and Stamkos and sparking more Lucic to Vancouver predictions and drafting the exact player they need, Jim Benning has had a busy couple of days!

They also talk about Pavel Datsyuk’s cap hit being traded to the Arizona Money Ballers for the 16th overall pick, what this means for both clubs, is Stamkos headed to Detroit Rock City? and they look at the tradition of Arizona eating contracts of current or future Hall of Famers.

They look at Calgary’s new bargain basement goalie (a band-aid goalie), Edmonton’s draft luck, even when they don’t win the lottery and the plethora of trades that went down on draft day. Andrew Shaw to Montreal being a stand out!

We also have a contest for TWO Pucks on net t-shirts this week (Small, medium or large… we’re outta XL). Just listen for the segment with the secret word and tweet, facebook or email it to us! We’ll pick two lucky winners!

Episode #114 – Sympathy For The Strombo

It’s the first day of summer, the hockey season is winding down and rumours are swirling that Canada’s boyfriend, George Stroumboulopoulos could no longer be the host of Hockey Night in Canada.

Geeta, P Mac and Ryan are with you this week to talk all about the potential big changes in Toronto with Rogers and Hockey Night in Canada. Where did they go wrong? Did they try and re-invent the wheel? Did they give up on Strombo too soon? Or write off Ron MacLean too easily?

They look at the goalie shuffle going on in the NHL. Marc-Andre Fleury and his two Cup rings could be on the move while Frederik Andersen was just traded to Toronto for two picks. Is the price of a promising goalie going up?

They talk about Randy Carlyle being rehired in Anaheim, Bruce Boudreau’s new team in Minnesota and their unusual coaching staff. And P Mac explains just what kind of coach Glen Gulutzan is and what the Calgary Flames are expecting from him!

Finally, the gang remembers the 2011 riot, looks at Jim Benning’s trading for prospects strategy and P Mac shares a tale of his days interning at Sports Talk!

Episode #113 – Heaven Is A Better Place Today, Mr. Howe

Our title honouring Gordie Howe comes from The Tragically Hip’s song “Heaven Is A Better Place Today”, take a listen to it if you’ve never heard it before. The boys give their thoughts on Mr. Hockey and share a couple stories meeting Gordie.

Ryan, Dave and P Mac get together a day removed from the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2016 Stanley Cup victory. They look back at the series, their dominance over the San Jose Sharks and Sidney Crosby’s Conn Smythe trophy win.

They take a phone call from Ol Jimmy Rutherford, who’s still celebrating his Stanley Cup victory, discuss Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel winning the cup after two big trades from Canadian markets, and they discuss where Pittsburgh is headed in the off season.

They also talk about expansion into Las Vegas, when it could all go down and their less than stellar predictions for a fan base and general interest of the NHL in Vegas by locals and tourists.

Finally, they joke about the idea of moving a second team in the Vancouver market, what they would call it and how to make it a recipe for success.

A fun and loose podcast as the NHL season comes to an end while we gear up for the NHL draft and free agency.

Episode #112 – Wherever Lucic May Roam

Pittsburgh has the edge on San Jose in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final, but it’s 30 degrees in Vancouver, BC, so the ‘Nets might be a little distracted.

Ryan, Geeta, Dave and P Mac, THE FULL BENCH!, join you this week to talk about the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, the Combine and the solid showing from the BCHL in top ranked prospects.

Where is Milan Lucic going to wind up? Los Angeles? Edmonton? Both seem like they want to pay him what he wants, but is it worth it? Does he have the longevity to make it worth LA or Edmonton’s while? Do their GM’s even care?!

The gang looks back at the Gudbranson trade, P Mac chimes in to talk about asset management and the picks that were given up to get the big D-man. It was a steep price to pay. Will it pay off?

Paul also brings up a good point regarding the Bonino for Sutter trade, and what type of role Sutter would play on the Penguins if he was still on the team.

Finally, the gang looks at the new Florida Panthers jerseys, gives their thoughts on the wardrobe change and suggests who’s due in the NHL for a change.
